Vile rich old farts on the decline.

Trump, Berlusconi, Murdoch: An era is closing. Ave atque vale.

Start here.

Itโ€™s a 2017 announcement, from the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York, of that yearโ€™s Lifetime Achievement Award winner, Laurence Doud.

The criteria for this award is very selective and discerning. The award is intended to distinguish those who have the continued passion and dedication to pharmacy throughout the yearsโ€ฆ Doud has been one of the most influential and deeply committed executives to independent pharmacy.

Move on to this Albany College of Pharmacy honorary degree citation:

After decades of consolidation, most industry observers in the 1980โ€™s believed that independent pharmacy would not survive. Larry Doud was not one of those people. Since he joined Rochester Drug Cooperative (RDC) in 1987, RDC has become one of the nationโ€™s largest drug wholesalers, serving community pharmacies and home health care dealers (and by extension, patients) in eight states. During that time, RDC has helped launch and maintain more than 400 independent pharmacies โ€“ including the Collegeโ€™s own student operated pharmacies. Since the early 2000โ€™s, the number of independent pharmacies has remained relatively stable, in part due to the efforts of people like Larry who understand that independent pharmacists remain an important part of the nationโ€™s health care system.

As Larryโ€™s carted off to jail for having flooded the Northeast corridor with opiates, let us pause on that independent and ask why Larry was so eager to foster his own independent chain of pharmacies unhampered by any large corporate controlsโ€ฆ Let us also ask why Larryโ€™s awards/honors/praise remain intact today on the websites of pharma organizations and schools. Just what are they trying to say?

******************

Prosecutors asked for โ€œ15 years in prison, saying that he should be held accountable for the โ€˜shattering impactโ€™ his actions had on people to whom he had unlawfully funneled opioids.โ€ He got two and a half.

When did standards for inclusion among NYUโ€™s trustees go into the crapper?

[T]he Fox host might have believed the wild allegations about Dominion she was allowing Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell to spew on her show.

Maria Bartiromo represents an academic institution of some repute on its BOT; yet the ongoing Dominion case against Fox News reveals her to be far too stupid to do anything but embarrass a university.

At least her fellow Fox people were prostitutes/cynics who only claimed to believe conspiracies advanced by the seriously mentally ill; Bartiromo, her lawyers now suggest, actually believed Sidney Powell and her bedlamite sources.

And there she sits, setting academic policy for NYU.

Itโ€™s not just that, in the wise words of Helen Lewis, โ€œROALD DAHL CAN NEVER BE MADE NICE.โ€

Itโ€™s that valuable art of any kind โ€“ painting, architecture, music, and of course literature โ€“ is the fierce enemy of nice. When the latter-day forces of Orwellโ€™s Junior Anti-Sex League get hold of Dahl or Joyce or Nabokov or Rimbaud or whoever wrote the brilliant Stupids series and try to shove their purification of it down our throats, we need to puke the whole thing up, right back in their faces.

Because only being covered in vomit, again and again, keeps the ever-eager purificationists from their task.

Hamfisted Hamline deserves all the shit coming its wayโ€ฆ

โ€ฆ via a hijabi who took offense at an image of Muhammed shown in the classroom. The professor was immediately fired; the school is now, in its public comments, backtracking like a bat outa hell but itโ€™s too late. They wonโ€™t have to pay the prof (who is, correctly, suing) as much as Oberlin had to pay that bakery, but the same cretinous reflexive bullshit did in both schools and as Joan Baez plaintively asked so many years ago when will they ever learn?
